For many years, North Korea has been isolated from other nations. It is very rare that other heads of state visit North Korea or invite Kim Jong-un himself. One of the few guests who visited North Korea in 2024 was Russian President Vladimir Putin. North Korean authorities organized a large-scale reception in the city of Pyongyang. Solemn events in the central square, visiting the largest concert venues. A general holiday was declared, concerning each inhabitant of the country. People who were honored to attend the events considered this event a personal celebration and achievement. As a photojournalist working at these events, I was able to spend several days photographing people participating in the celebrations of the historic visit.
