An environmental disaster that occurred on December 15, 2024 — the hulls of two Russian tankers broke. As a result, fuel oil spilled into the Kerch Strait. Later the fuel oil stain was carried to the coastline of several dozens of kilometers. As a result, many animals, birds and dolphins died. Local authorities and volunteers from all over the country rushed to collect the fuel oil. There were also organized activities to save birds — night capture with further disinfection.
